Wyld Oaks Zoning Ordinances Removed from Apopka City Council Agenda Amid Project Developments

Key ordinances for the 215-acre mixed-use development to be revisited after re-advertisement

Two significant ordinances concerning the Wyld Oaks development have been withdrawn from the upcoming Apopka City Council agenda.

This decision follows an agreement between city officials and the developer to re-advertise the items for future consideration.

The Wyld Oaks project, spanning 215 acres near State Road 429 in northwest Apopka, is envisioned as a comprehensive mixed-use community.

Plans include residential neighborhoods, retail and dining establishments, office and medical spaces, hotels, parks, and entertainment venues.

Since breaking ground in January 2024, the development has progressed steadily, with infrastructure nearing completion and vertical construction anticipated to commence in early 2026.

In a recent joint workshop, city planners and developer representatives agreed to remove the two ordinances from the agenda to allow for re-advertisement and public hearings on proposed land-use and zoning modifications.

The council's agenda indicates these items will be revisited in a future meeting with updated documentation and notices.

Beyond the Wyld Oaks matters, the council is set to address various business items at the upcoming meeting.

These include a presentation of the city's final strategic plan, developed with community input and consultant guidance, outlining long-term priorities for economic development, quality of life, infrastructure, and public services.

Additionally, the council will review recommended awards for the city's Non-Profit Grant Program and consider a Utility Services Territorial Transfer Agreement involving area water systems.

One agenda item likely to draw particular attention is Resolution 2026-06, a proposed policy allowing the city to advance funds to cover legal expenses for the mayor or commissioners in certain non-criminal actions or proceedings—a subject of recent public discussion.

Other items include ordinances amending the city code related to water and sewer systems, revising the General Employees’ Retirement System, and approving a FY 2026 budget amendment, along with resolutions tied to State Revolving Fund loans for clean and drinking water projects.

Consent agenda items encompass a street closure request for the 5th Street Car Show, an interagency agreement between the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Apopka Police Department, and the city's budget-to-actual report for the first three months of the fiscal year.

The meeting will commence with a recap of recent student band trips presented by Mayor Bryan Nelson and will conclude with council and staff reports.

As the Wyld Oaks development continues to evolve, stakeholders remain engaged in ensuring the project's alignment with community needs and regulatory requirements.
