Maters & Taters Market & Creamery Closes After 41 Years in Apopka

Beloved local market bids farewell, leaving a legacy of fresh produce and community connection

After more than four decades of serving the Apopka community, Maters & Taters Market & Creamery has closed its doors.

The market, renowned for its fresh produce and Amish goods, held its final day of operation on November 15, 2025.

Established in 1981 by Marilyn and Sherman Boyer, the market began in Forest City, later moving to Winter Park, and eventually settling in Apopka.

Over the years, it became a staple for residents seeking quality fruits, vegetables, eggs, and baked goods.

In a heartfelt message, store manager Andy Ray expressed gratitude to the community, stating, "The smiles, the laughs, and especially getting to know each and every one of you. You all were a blessing."

Ray attributed the closure to the untimely passing of his stepfather, Jeff Boyer, and a decline in customer traffic.

He noted that daily customer counts had dwindled from 150-170 to as low as 38 on the final day.

To clear remaining inventory, the market offered significant discounts, including 75% off produce and Spanish products.

Unsold items were donated to H.O.P.E. of Apopka, continuing the market's tradition of community support.

The property at 454 North Park Avenue is now listed for sale at $1.2 million.

Realtor Natalie Arrowsmith mentioned, "We're seeing a lot of interest from different types of buyers."

She emphasized the importance of finding a buyer who understands the location's potential.

Ray hopes the building will be preserved and that a similar market might emerge to serve the community.

Reflecting on the closure, he said, "It’s going to be kind of bittersweet. But sometimes, you just gotta move on."
