High-Speed Collision in Apopka Claims Two Lives, Injures Two Teens

A devastating collision occurred in Apopka on Sunday evening, resulting in the deaths of two elderly residents and serious injuries to two teenagers. The incident took place shortly after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Rock Springs Road and Alexandria Place Drive.

 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), an 18-year-old man from Apopka was driving a Ford Mustang southbound on Rock Springs Road at a high rate of speed. A 17-year-old boy was seated in the passenger seat. As the Mustang approached the intersection, a van driven by a 63-year-old man was traveling northbound and attempted to make a left turn onto Alexandria Place Drive.

 

The van turned directly into the path of the speeding Mustang, leading to a violent collision. The front of the Mustang struck the right side of the van, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

 

Tragically, two passengers in the van, an 81-year-old man and a 94-year-old woman, both from Apopka, lost their lives. The elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was transported to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

 

The driver of the Mustang and his 17-year-old passenger were both rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The 17-year-old is reported to be in critical condition. The driver of the van remained at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

 

This incident underscores the dangers of high-speed driving and the critical importance of cautious maneuvering at intersections. The FHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
