Seven Seniors Shine in Commanding Victory Over Lake Minneola |
Apopka High School's Blue Darters delivered a stellar performance on senior night, overwhelming Lake Minneola with a decisive 79-36 victory.
The evening began with heartfelt tributes to seniors Rafi Betancourt, Jarquavion McClain, Trent Jean, Zee Davis, Noah Ferrer, Xavier Bell, and Matthew Murray.
Despite a slow start, the Blue Darters found their rhythm in the second quarter.
Noah Ferrer ignited the turnaround with a dynamic display, contributing 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, and six steals.
His energy on both ends of the court set the tone for the team.
“Once we got into the second quarter, we all showed up and played together,” Ferrer remarked.
“We got a lot of steals, turnovers, made them pay and finished at the basket.”
Jarquavion McClain matched Ferrer's scoring with 12 points and added five rebounds.
Trent Jean orchestrated the offense masterfully, recording six points, eight assists, and three steals.
The team's defensive pressure intensified, leading to numerous turnovers and fast-break opportunities.
By halftime, Apopka had established a 33-23 lead, which they expanded with a 26-point third quarter.
The fourth quarter transformed into a celebration of the seniors' contributions.
Head coach Scott Williams praised the seniors for setting the tone after the initial sluggish start.
“Noah totally affected the game at the start of the second quarter,” Williams said.
“He dominated for about three or four minutes.
We’ve got seven wonderful seniors, wonderful young men.
How everybody cares on a senior night is a culture thing, and I’m really proud of them for that.”
With this win, Apopka improved to 14-10 and secured the No. 2 seed in the district tournament.
They are set to face East Ridge in the upcoming semifinal.
As the Blue Darters transition into postseason play, the focus remains on maintaining their momentum and cohesion.
“The program’s mentality is next play,” Williams emphasized.
“That’s what we live by.
We’re going to come in tomorrow and practice and get better.
Our guys are grounded.
We’ve handled success and adversity fairly well, and it’s not going to change now.”
For the seniors, this game was a fitting culmination of their high school basketball journey, leaving a legacy of resilience and teamwork for future Blue Darters to emulate. |
